Start with what matters to you
Write down your concerns in your own words and what you hope might change in your life. You do not need to know the name of an operation. It can also help to identify what you would like to preserve about your features or body.
Bring information that helps the assessment
Prepare a list of medicines, supplements, allergies and health conditions, along with previous procedure details and relevant reports. Tell the surgeon about smoking or nicotine use. Do not stop or adjust medication on your own.
Ask about the whole plan
Discuss benefits, limits of improvement, personal risks and alternatives, including no treatment. Ask about anaesthesia, the setting, recovery, scars, follow-up and what the cost includes.
Think about the period after treatment
How would you organise work, travel and responsibilities at home? Would you need someone to help? What symptoms require urgent advice, and who should you contact? Ask for clear instructions before arranging a procedure.
Give yourself time
Take the time you need to understand the answers. A consultation does not commit you to treatment. You can ask for further clarification or another opinion if important questions remain.
